LEWISTON — Lewiston school officials Wednesday alerted parents, students and staff that due to the high heat being predicted for Thursday, they are canceling summer school that day.
“Due to the heat index projected for tomorrow we will not have sessions for summer school, CLIMB, Extended School Year (ESY), and 21st Century,” read the alert from Superintendent Jake Langlois.
The alert also said that leaders and staff overseeing athletics and other extracurriculars Thursday “will make determinations and communicate to participants separately of this communication. For staff, contact your immediate supervisor if you have any questions regarding programming and/or mitigating the conditions.”
The National Weather Service on Wednesday afternoon was predicting temperatures in the Lewiston-Auburn area Thursday would reach a high of 98 degrees and feel like 106. Friday’s temperatures are predicted to be only a few degrees lower.
