DEAR SUN SPOTTERS: Once again I need to be away from my desk for bit while I tend to some family matters. Sometimes we must go with the flow and assist our loved ones when needed. 

I’m not a fan of leaving Maine in the summertime but where I have to go is almost as beautiful. I just want to give you heads-up that there may not be a column between about July 8-23.

So get your letters to me by July 5 and know that the first thing I’ll do when I return is sit down and catch up with all my wonderful readers. 

DEAR SUN SPOTS: Turner Public Library will hold its Annual Book Sale in the Community Room of the Leavitt Institute Building, 98 Matthews Way in Turner, Thursday, July 2 through Sunday, July 5, from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. daily. 

Unless otherwise marked, books are priced at $1 for hardcovers and 50 cents for paperbacks. There are books for all ages and interests, as well as puzzles and other treasures. On Sunday, July 5, there will be a fill-a-bag sale for $5 each. — Sadie, Turner

ANSWER: This event is coming right up and I’m excited about it because I think it’s one of the best book sales around. “In my book”, nothing is better than lounging about on a summer’s day with an enjoyable book and an ice-cold beverage. There’s something about this pastime that brings me back to my childhood. I was never bored because I had a ready escape at my fingertips, a porch swing, and my imagination.

Do you have any favorite summer reads? One of mine is “The Shell Seekers” by Rosamund Pilcher and another is “Tapestry of Fortunes” by Elizabeth Berg. If you’re spending any time on an island in Maine this summer (or wishing you were) the perfect companions are books by Elizabeth Ogilvie. Please share! 

DEAR SUN SPOTS: Thank you for advertising our public suppers at North Waterford Congregational Church at 10 Irving Green Road in Waterford. Last time we announced an upcoming supper, I gave you the wrong price. We did not go up on pricing this year and the cost is still $12 for adults and $6 for children. 

The next supper is Tuesday, July 7, from 5-6:30 p.m. The menu includes baked beans, chop suey, cole slaw, meatloaf, casseroles, salads, brown bread, rolls and beverages, with strawberry shortcake for dessert.
