The town of Kingfield will pose two articles to voters at a special town meeting July 13: a moratorium ordinance on “transient overnight recreational developments” and permission to release a sewer line easement.

Kingfield’s proposed moratorium was originally presented to the town as a way to pause the development of a 20.7-acre campsite on Iron Bridge Road owned by Bowdoin College. The ordinance sets a 180-day pause on any “development that fits into the category of Transient Overnight Recreational Development” that will use the one-lane bridge crossing from Route 27 to Iron Bridge Road.

Bowdoin withdrew its permit application in May, saying it will reapply after 6 months.

The moratorium is aimed at allowing the town to review its outdated ordinances, including those defining zoning and subdivisions. Kingfield will seek to update all of its zoning ordinances, but they will need to coincide with the acceptance of the town’s new comprehensive plan.

Also on the warrant is an article asking voters to allow the town to disconnect a sewer line leading to 372 Main St. to S and B Kingfield LLC.

The meeting will begin at 6 p.m. in Webster Hall at 38 School St. A public hearing will be held a week ahead of the meeting on July 6 to take comments from residents on the articles.
