DEAR SUN SPOTS: St. Catherine of Sienna Church at 32 Paris St. in Norway will host an ice cream social Tuesday, Aug. 11, at 6 p.m., offering a sweet way for the community to enjoy summer and support a meaningful cause.

Guests can enjoy ice cream with a full selection of toppings, along with a variety of homemade baked goods. The event will also feature lawn games plus balloons and bubbles for the children, making it a fun occasion for all ages.

 The social is planned for outdoors, but in the event of rain, activities will move indoors. Attendees are encouraged to bring their own chairs.

 Admission is by donation, with all proceeds going toward the efforts to alleviate food insecurities in our community. — Sandy, Norway

DEAR SUN SPOTS: The Auburn Community Concert Band has kicked off its 45th Annual Summer Series of outdoor concerts at Festival Plaza in downtown Auburn.

Free 75-minute concerts are planned for every Wednesday evening through Aug. 19, weather permitting. Each week, starting at 7 p.m., the band will perform a different program of music featuring popular hit songs from each decade from the ’60’s through the present. 

Ample free parking is available in the municipal garage across the street from the plaza. Portable toilets will be alongside the garage for use by the band’s weekly audience. 

Auburn’s Age Friendly group will be on site, selling a large variety of refreshments during every performance. Attendees should bring their own lawn chairs. DEAR SUN SPOTS: The Androscoggin Historical Society is celebrating the 250th anniversary of the Declaration of Independence and our country’s birthday with a historical display of authentic items. Accompanied by a triptych with historical information, this is truly an informational display. Especially interesting are the paintings of George and Martha Washington.

The historical society 93 Lisbon St. in Lewiston is open Wednesdays and Saturdays from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m., and Fridays from noon to 4 p.m. Admission is free but donations are welcome. — Cynthia, Lewiston
