A Jay man is accused of shooting two shots from a handgun into the pavement outside a busy Cumberland Farms on Monday night in Livermore Falls.
Ethan Painter, 23, was arrested on felony charges of criminal threatening with a dangerous weapon and aggravated reckless conduct, according to officer Liam Corson of the Livermore Falls Police Department.
Corson said the incident started after an unidentified man left the Main Street store about 10:30 p.m. and got into a discussion with Painter on the nearby sidewalk. The man told Painter he did not have $100 to repay a debt. An argument escalated and Painter took out a gun and fired twice into the pavement, Corson said.
Many people were in the store when the shooting occurred, according to Corson.
Deputies from Androscoggin and Franklin counties assisted.
Painter posted $5,000 cash bail and released Tuesday from the Androscoggin County Jail in Auburn, a corrections officer said.
Attempts to contact Painter were unsuccessful.
