Lewiston thrift store Alter 207 is moving to 154 Mount Auburn Ave. in Auburn.

The store opened in May in the former Schemengees Bar & Grille building in Lewiston, several months later than expected following a fire in October 2025.

The store, which is operated by the nonprofit Kaydenz Kitchen, will be opening at the site of a former daycare center, in a busy shopping area featuring Walmart, BJ’s Wholesale Club, Hobby Lobby and other businesses.

Monday was Alter 207’s last day in Lewiston. The Auburn store is expected to open sometime in August, no later than September, according to organizers.

The store features a wide variety of gently used items, with new inventory every day, including clothing, blankets, household items and more. All items are donated from the public, who can drop off donations during regular hours.

All last week, the organization was giving out items to the community.

According to Kevin Boilard, executive director of Kaydenz Kitchen, the organization has given away $10,000 worth of merchandise.

The new location, he said, offers one advantage they didn’t have before: visibility.

“Kaydenz Kitchen is well-known in the community for its philanthropy, but the thrift store component is new,” Boilard said. “People look at us and know us for running the warming center and the shelter. This is a good opportunity to get our names out there and show how we can really help the community with the thrift store, and this is the place to do it.”

Boilard also said that by being in an area that offers friendly competition with stores that include Goodwill, he hopes their new location will give people another option for their unwanted items.

“A lot of what we hear is, ‘We want to donate to your cause compared to other thrift store models because it’s going back in the community,'” Boilard said. “The fact that we’re going to be closer to these places will hopefully provide an easier avenue for people to decide which way they want to go with their donations.”
