Raymond F. Hammond
SOUTH PARIS – Raymond F. Hammond died peacefully in his home on July 5, 2026, surrounded by the love of his family. Raymond was born on August 25, 1937, in West Sumner to Erlon V. and Tena (Colburn) Hammond. He attended school in West Sumner, graduated from West Paris High School in 1956 and from The Maine School of Commerce in 1962.
His first job was building the fire in the wood stove at his elementary school. He went on to deliver groceries from Davis’s general store and then while a student in high school bought a car to transport the Sumner students to West Paris.
He served in the U, S. Army from 1956 – 1958 stationed in Germany. He earned the rank of Staff Sergeant and received both a Good Conduct medal and Marksmanship awards.
He married Marilyn Richardson at the West Sumner Universalist Church on April 19, 1959, and they celebrated their 67th anniversary this past April.
He was employed at Oxford Foods, Country Way, Smith’s Shop and Save and retired from Hannaford.
He was an active member of The South Paris Universalist Church serving in many roles from collector to dishwasher. He was a life member of the The Poland Spring Preservation Society and the Paris Cape Historical Society. He coached Little League Baseball when his boys were involved and was treasurer of The Little League Association.
He was a collector and reader of Westerns and avid sports fan of the Boston Red Sox and the New England Patriots. Game Days and the NFL draft were a priority on his calendar. He enjoyed feeding the birds, summer concerts, and above all gatherings of the family.
He was predeceased by his parents and a sister, Clara Hammond.
He is survived by his wife, Marilyn (Richardson) Hammond; his sons Gary, Craig, Eric, and foster son, Michael; numerous grandchildren; and one very special great granddaughter.
Services will be held Sunday, July 12 at 2 p.m. at the South Paris Universalist Church on Pine Street. Arrangements are under the care of Chandler Funeral Homes and Cremation Service, 45 Main St., South Paris. Online condolences may be shared with his family at http://www.chandlerfunerals.com.
