Directors of Maine School Administrative District 58 voted July 9 to accept Strong’s withdrawal proposal, which will be sent to the state for feedback.

The district also includes Kingfield, Phillips and Avon.

In the proposal, MSAD 58 agreed to give four school buses to the town along with 15% of the district’s undesignated funds. Students from Strong will also be guaranteed acceptance to Mount Abram High School. In return, Strong will pay 24.6% of the district’s debt as of June 30, 2027.

Strong is the second town in the district to move forward with the process to leave MSAD 58. The board also approved a proposal from Kingfield on June 25, with similar stipulations. The district would allow the town to retain three school buses, $300,000 from the district’s undesignated funds and guaranteed acceptance of Kingfield high school students to Mount Abram High School.

Strong’s proposal will be sent to the state for feedback on any changes that need to be made before it can go to voters. Any feedback will be sent to the Strong Withdrawal Committee for revision before being returned to the state for approval from the commissioner of education.

Strong residents will vote on withdrawal in November.
