LEWISTON — A police trailer used to provide extra security at community events was destroyed Tuesday night when it was struck by a car.
The equipment was parked in the area of 230 Bartlett St. when it was struck just before 9 p.m., police said.
The estimated replacement cost is roughly $40,000. The trailer is considered a total loss.
Police said 29-year-old Eve Iryaruranga of Lewiston was driving with a learner’s permit, with a licensed driver in the passenger seat, when she drove into the trailer.
Iryaruranga told police she had intended to apply the brakes but accidentally pressed the accelerator.
Nobody was hurt in the wreck and no charges were filed.
The trailer was equipped with multiple live-feed cameras and was used at a variety of events in areas where additional security monitoring is needed.
It was not immediately clear how soon the trailer will be replaced.
