The outcome of the 2020 election is still being challenged by the election deniers. This threatens our entire democracy.

Public trust in elections matters, and allegations about the 2020 presidential race deserve clear-eyed scrutiny. The election occurred at the end of the 45th president’s term, whose administration oversaw federal election security.

States most often accused of “rigging” — Georgia, Arizona, Michigan, Pennsylvania and Wisconsin — were governed by a mix of Republican and Democratic leadership, with Republicans controlling most of the legislatures.

After the election, dozens of investigations, recounts and court cases — many initiated by the accusing organizations — found no evidence of fraud. For a conspiracy to alter only the presidential race — across multiple states with different political leadership, while leaving all other races untouched — would require coordination among thousands of officials, poll workers, judges and auditors.

The likelihood of such a plot remaining undiscovered is extraordinarily small, given the number of independent checks, bipartisan oversight and public transparency built into U.S. election systems.
