The Marshwood All-Star baseball team went 2-1 in pool play at the Cal Ripken 9U World Series in Florence, Alabama.

The Hawks won their first two games before losing to Hilo (Hawaii) 16-2 in their final pool play game Tuesday night. Marshwood finished fifth in the South pool and plays Florence (Alabama) Red, which finished 12th, in its first game of bracket portion of the tournament at 9 a.m. Wednesday.

Marshwood won its opener 4-3 over the Carribbean on Monday. The Hawks scored twice in the third inning and twice in the fifth. Bryce Carlin drove in a pair of runs and Brady Smith had two hits, including a triple.

In its first game Tuesday, Carlin hit an RBI single in the second inning and four pitchers held Bonaire to six hits in a 2-1 win.

Smith scored on an error in the first inning to give Marshwood the lead. He was also starting and allowed two hits, while striking out two and walking two in 1 2/3 innings. James Galuppo (two innings), Alexander Harrison (1/3 inning) and Archer Catanese (two innings) completed the win.

In their final pool play game, Hilo scored three runs in the first and two in the second against Marshwood to take a 5-2 lead, then scored nine times in the sixth inning. Marshwood scored twice in the first on fielder’s choice ground outs by James Galuppo and Ryder Ward.
