Authorities are investigating an apparent suicide attempt at a shooting range and gun shop on Wednesday afternoon in Gray.

Several police vehicles and two ambulances were seen at Howell’s Indoor Range & Gunshop on West Gray Road just after 12:30 p.m. Most of the emergency response had cleared up by 2:40 p.m.

Cumberland County Sheriff Kevin Joyce confirmed that authorities are investigating a suicide attempt and “there is no evidence of foul play.” He said Thursday that the person was injured by gunfire and is in “very serious condition.”

The store posted on Facebook that it was closing early for the day and planned to reopen Thursday. A woman inside the store Wednesday waved a reporter away when he knocked, and an employee outside declined to speak.
