DEAR SUN SPOTS: The Hartford Heritage Society is holding its annual Antique Auto Show at the J & O Irish Museum, 1225 Main St, Route 140, Hartford, on Sunday, Aug. 30, from noon to 3 p.m. 

We would like to welcome all owners of antique autos to please come join us for a few hours. There is no registration fee and small prizes will be given out to the first-, second- and third-places for Best of Show. We will also be selling light lunches and giving tours of the museum.

ANSWER: The antique auto show sounds like loads of fun and I’m glad you’re still doing it. I’m always impressed with these vehicles and the care and attention their owners put into them. It’s a great hobby. My brother spent years restoring and caring for a 1949 Buick. It was purple! And man, we had fun riding around in that thing back in the early 1970s. Good times! 

As for me, I’ve always had a thing for 1966 Mustang convertibles — the blue ones. Does anyone in Sun Spots Land have one of those? 

And yes, I had a great time with my daughter and her family in Ireland. I’m learning everything there is to know about Galway sheep, shearing, selling wool, spinning, dyeing with natural plants, knitting, and more. The lambs grow so fast! 

I want to add that if anyone wants to get into reading works by some Irish authors, I highly recommend Niall Williams and Jean Grainger. They are very different but both will take you right to the Emerald Isle while you relax in your armchair with a cup of tea. 

DEAR SUN SPOTS: The Drop-in Center at 121 Mill St. in Auburn is looking to add more volunteers to its team. If you’re looking for a rewarding volunteer opportunity, please consider joining us.

We are a safe, low barrier place where people in our community who are experiencing homelessness and those in need can access much needed resources. The center is open Wednesdays and Saturdays from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. We offer our guests breakfast, lunch, an opportunity to shower, and shop at our free store for clothing and personal care items.
