Yes.

Lewiston’s mayor is paid $7,000 a year, a salary set by a 2022 city ordinance. City councilors earn $4,000.
The mayor only serves part time. In 2021, Lewiston’s Charter Review Committee rejected a proposal to make the office full time, saying the city’s tradition of “largely volunteer service” was preferable.
Lewiston uses a council-manager form of government. Under the city charter, the mayor presides over the City Council, votes only in limited circumstances, serves as the ceremonial head of government and makes certain appointments.
The current mayor is Carl Sheline, first elected in 2021.
Mayoral pay varies widely among Maine’s largest cities. Portland’s mayor earned $99,102 in 2024, based on a charter provision tying the salary to 1.5 times the city’s median household income. Bangor pays councilors $2,000 a year, plus an additional $500 to the council chair, who serves as mayor.
