The Paris Public Library is marking its 100th year with a birthday bash Saturday, Sept. 19, from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. Festivities will take place at the library at 37 Market Square, in the parking lot and next door at the Deering Memorial Community Center at 39 Main St..
The party starts Saturday at 8 a.m. with a book sale. The price for each one is to donate what you can.
There will be a section of free books just for educators and students.
Other library merchandise on sale includes book bags, notecards, shirts and coasters. People can also participate in a 50/50 raffle.
“Today we have about 7,200 patrons of the library,” Director Joy Johnson said. “And people don’t have to be a resident of Paris to join. Membership is free to anyone who lives, works, pays taxes or attends school in the surrounding area.”
To commemorate its longstanding service to the community, library staff has created an exhibit of its history and its librarians. It will be displayed in the sanctuary of the Deering Memorial Community Center.
Local food trucks Buffalo Hill and Smokin’ Dave’s will set up in the library parking lot from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., with the former featuring breakfast options.
Musical entertainment is being provided by 1970s cover band Slightly Polished from noon to 2 p.m.
At 1 p.m. library Trustee President Tobie Gordon will give remarks on the library 100 years, followed by birthday cake courtesy of Hannaford.
The library is open Monday to Friday from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m., and Saturday from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.
Johnson said all donations are used for building maintenance and repairs.
