Here’s a question you should ask people running for office: How will we get there?
Gas, diesel and vehicles are quickly rising in price. In a Gorman Foundation report, 30% of Mainers don’t drive and that number may rise as the affordability of driving come into play. So, it is campaign season and candidates are running for town, state and national offices.
At your door or at any meeting where candidates are available ask them this: What are your thoughts on transportation? How will we manage as our budget for transportation outstrips our income; isn’t support for public transportation necessary?
Please ask these questions while the candidates are running; they need to think long and deeply about how to best serve their constituents. Drivers and non-drivers need thoughtful policies.
