This paper has printed several letters that explain why the authors are voting for Susan Collins or Troy Jackson. It is interesting to hear the different perspectives, but when it really comes down to it, this is not about who has more energy or who has done more for the state. It comes down to the fact that our Republican-controlled Congress has done nothing to rein Donald Trump in.
They are allowing him to degrade free speech, massively cash in on the presidency, sell pardons, illegally deport and detain (and kill) innocent people and lie about election fraud. Most strikingly they are allowing him to waste taxpayer dollars on a needless war, ballrooms and arches and on and on.
In my view, Collins (who also no longer appears to have the power of the purse strings in Washington, D.C.) has consistently voted in a way that has allowed Trump’s agenda to move forward. The proof is there for anyone to see. Collins only votes against her party when they do not need her vote for an issue to pass. When they need her, she is right there for them.
A vote for Collins is a clear vote for Trump’s agenda. If people disapprove of what Trump is doing to this country, then they should not be voting for Collins, period. Jackson will call out Trump’s nonsense, something Collins has not been willing to do.
