LEWISTON — Olin Arts Center will host two of Texas’ finest songwriters, Vince Bell and Eric Taylor, on Saturday, May 12.

Taylor is touring in support of his new CD, “Live At The Red Shack,” which includes guest appearances by Nanci Griffith and Lyle Lovett. Bell is recording his sixth CD and is the subject of a documentary of his musical career, now in preproduction.

Bell’s songs have been performed and recorded by Little Feat, Lovett and Griffith; and both a ballet and musical have been set to his work.

Along with five critically acclaimed CDs, he is the author of an autobiography, “One Man’s Music: The Life and Times of Texas Songwriter Vince Bell,” published by the University of North Texas Press; and a one-man performance piece, “One Man’s Music: A Monologue with Song.”

Bell performs in the United States and Europe, and has appeared on such nationally broadcast television and radio shows as “Austin City Limits,” “Mountain Stage,” “World Cafe,” “In the Prime” and NPR’s “Morning Edition.”

Taylor, a master storyteller, has been considered one of the finest Southern songwriters for the last four decades. Influencing such well-known artists as Griffith, Lovett and Steve Earle, he tours extensively throughout North America and Europe.

Taylor has appeared on “Austin City Limits,” “Late Night With David Letterman,”  “Morning Edition” and BBC Radio.

“Eric and I muscled into music many moons ago, way down in dear old Tejas,” Bell said. “I don’t have an older, or better songwriting, friend. We’ve sung our way through many shows, we know the punch lines to all the jokes, and all the notes of the songs.”

“Vince is one of those rare writers that forces you to look into yourself,” Taylor said. “Sometimes you laugh, sometimes you cringe, sometimes you just play his records over again just to see what you might have missed the first go’round.”

“Vince doesn’t just make up songs,” Taylor said. “He writes them and takes them out on the road and plays them with a most wonderful orchestrated and beat style. He gets in you. Like a real writer. I’m looking forward to playing with my old friend again.”

The concert will begin at 7:30 p.m. For ticket information, call 786-6135 or email [email protected].

Vince Bell’s songs have been performed and recorded by the likes of Little Feat, Lyle Lovett and Nanci Griffith.

Eric Taylor, a master storyteller, has been a respected songwriter for the last four decades.
