HALLOWELL — Fourteen Maine community college students have been named to the All-Maine Academic Team for two-year colleges. They will be honored at a ceremony on Tuesday, April 22, at the Maple Hill Farm Inn and Conference Center. The event will be hosted by the Maine Community College System Board of Trustees.
Local students receiving the award and a $500 scholarship are:
Anthony Arcuicci, 32, of Poland, 3.6 GPA, general studies major at Central Maine Community College in Auburn. Achievements: Phi Theta Kappa member, PTK event volunteer, PTK New England Regional Leadership Conference participant, Operation Gratitude/Center Street Dental volunteer, Patient AirLift Services volunteer.
Allyson Phinney, 22, of Norway, 3.6 GPA, nursing major at Central Maine Community College. Achievements: Phi Theta Kappa member, dean’s list 2010-013, Curriculum Committee member, Senior Nursing Students representative.
Also honored are: Mark McCue, Newport, Eastern Maine Community College, Bangor; Christina Tirrell, Dover-Foxcroft, Eastern Maine Community College; Charles Feyler, South China, Kennebec Valley Community College in Fairfield/Hinckley; Keith Sullivan, Fairfield, Kennebec Valley Community College; Heather Carnes, Presque Isle, Northern Maine Community College in Presque Isle; Myasia Williams, Presque Isle, Northern Maine Community College; Jason Glynn, Buxton, Southern Maine Community College in South Portland/Brunswick; Jenny-Rose Mercuro, Jefferson, Southern Maine Community College; Cynthia Miller, East Machias, Washington County Community College in Calais; Amanda Moores, Calais, Washington County Community College; Donna Harbison, Saco, York County Community College in Wells; and Miranda Marshall, Sanford, York County Community College.
SMCC’s Jason Glynn will also be honored as Maine’s New Century Scholar in recognition of having achieved the highest All-USA Academic Team application score in the state. He will represent Maine at the American Association of Community Colleges’ annual convention in April, where he will receive a $2,000 scholarship.
The All-Maine Academic Team is part of the national Phi Theta Kappa program, an international honor society for two-year colleges. Students are nominated and selected for the team by their college based on outstanding academic achievement, leadership and service.
