BIDDEFORD – Biddeford quarterback Phil Bourassa squirted through four would-be Oxford Hills tacklers to convert a fourth-and-long during the second quarter Friday night. He got up to a roar from the thousands of fans at Waterhouse Field while the coaches on the Vikings’ sideline stood with their hands on their hips in disbelief.

But Bourassa’s run was no fluke. Biddeford’s offense dominated Oxford Hills’ defense up front as the Tigers (2-0) rolled to a 35-7 win over the Vikings (1-1).

“We’ll put it behind us,” Oxford Hills coach Paul Bickford said. ” It’s a very long season. It’s just one game. That’s what we have to focus on. We have some talent here. The kids are going to work hard, and we’re going to get better.”

The Vikings have little choice.

Biddeford outgained Oxford Hills 418 to 188. The Tigers’ ground game accounted for 339 yards, highlighted by James Morin’s 72-yard run on an option-pitch from Bourassa with 11:24 left in the second quarter to put Biddeford up 21-0 after the two-point conversion.

It was a rough game for the Vikings from the start.

Oxford Hills fumbled on its first play from scrimmage, and the Tigers went 28 yards in six plays to take a 7-0 lead on

Morin’s (six carries for 100 yards) 4-yard run.

After a Vikings’ punt, the Tigers went up 13-0 on a 30-yard run by Matthew Forcier (four carries for 86 yards) with 6:15 left in the opening stanza after the extra point failed.

Oxford Hills showed signs of life with a drive inside the Tigers’ 1-yard line, but Morin intercepted a pass at the 1 to kill the Vikings’ threat.

“We had a couple of opportunities down by the goal line and we didn’t capitalize,” Bickford said. “We’ve got to put it in the end zone when we’re that close. A couple of scores when we have those chances and that changes the game. That’s what we need to do to get better.”

Forcier scored his second touchdown of the game from 33 yards out at 3:59 of the third quarter to give Biddeford a 27-0 lead.

The Tigers sent in their subs to start the fourth quarter, which is when Oxford Hills got into the end zone. Vikings’ quarterback Tim Cote (5 of 17 for 88 yards) hit fullback Kass Eells out of the backfield on 34-yard pass play.
