Lillian B. Sutton
1920 – 2009
LEWISTON — Lillian B. Sutton, 89, formerly of Maison Marcotte, 100 Campus Ave., Lewiston, died Sunday, Oct. 18, at d’Youville Nursing Home, after a long illness.
She was born July 25, 1920, in Lewiston, the third child to John P. and Marie Anna Bolduc Sutton, attended local schools and graduated from Lewiston High School in 1937. She completed advanced studies from the General Motors Training Program in Dedham, Mass., and Computer Introduction course in Newark, N.J.
She received certification from the International Society for Bookkeeping and Office Management in a 2 year home correspondent course achieving honors for her studies. She was employed as office manager at Pontiac Center Inc., Davis Cadillac Inc. and at Lee Oldsmobile Cadillac, retiring in 1984. She then devoted six years as a volunteer at the Basilica of Saints Peter and Paul Parish Rectory.
Active all of her adult life in church organizations, she was a member of L’Union St. Jean Baptiste Counseil Ste Croix, No. 413, serving 25 years as treasurer, receiving recognition for her years of service in 1990, a long-time member of Saints Peter and Paul Society, Prince of Peace parish, and Holy Cross Senior Citizens Group and devoted to parish life at the basilica of Saints Peter and Paul as eucharistic minister visiting many homebound parishioners.
She excelled in the art of needlepoint, sewing and of gathering family genealogy details. Her talent to make penuche fudge and pecan pies, was renown by friends and family. She will forever be remembered for her generous heart, strong faith in God and deep devotion to her extended families.
She is survived by two sisters, Mrs. Irene Sutton Robitaille of Lewiston and Mrs. Patricia Sutton Stuart of Sabattus and her husband, William H. Stuart; a brother, Raymond A. Sutton of Hyde Park, N.Y., and his wife, Sylvia Langlais Sutton; a sister-in-law, Mrs. Georgette Couture (William) Sutton of Hills Beach, Biddeford; 22 nieces and nephews; and 29 grandnieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by her father; mother; brothers, John R., William A., Baby George, John P. Jr., Ernest N.; a sister, Therese I.; a sister-in-law, Mrs. Forence Bazinet Sutton; and a brother in-law, Roland Robitaille.
