WOODSTOCK – The old fire station on Railroad Street will be renovated into a recreation center, and an addition will be built onto the new station, townspeople decided Tuesday. Both projects are expected to be finished before winter.
Residents at the special town meeting ratified a vote taken Sept. 16 to allow the old fire station on Railroad Street to be used as a community recreation center. They also approved using at least $20,000 in donations to renovate it.
Voters also OK’d buying property next to the old station with $8,300 in donations to the town.
And they appropriated $12,000 from the tree growth account to finance construction of an addition to the new fire station at the town office and garage complex. There is a $5,000 donation to be used for it, Maxfield said.
Any money left from the renovation will be returned to the tree growth account.
The old station will have new windows and a single walk-in door to replace the overhead doors, the downstairs bathroom will be made handicap accessible.
The fire station addition cement work is expected to be completed next week.
Norman Putnam was elected moderator.
