RUMFORD – A Rumford man was arrested Saturday night after police were tipped off about possible underage drinking occurring at a Knox Street party, police said.

John P. Bernard, 38, was charged with furnishing a place for minors to consume alcohol. He was released on $300 unsecured bail. Arraignment was slated for Dec. 2 at Rumford District Court.

Man charged with assaulting woman twice

RUMFORD – Alvah Pike IV, 22, of Rumford, was arrested early Saturday morning and charged with two counts of domestic assault, police said. He was released on $400 cash bail. Arraignment was set for Dec. 2 at Rumford District Court.

According to police, a Cumberland Street woman called at 1:53 a.m. Saturday, saying she had just been assaulted. When officers arrived, Pike, the woman’s alleged assailant had fled and was nowhere to be found.

But after police cleared the scene, Pike reportedly returned and assaulted the woman again before fleeing a second time. Police returned again and this time, located Pike on Cumberland Street.

Big rig damaged

in moose crash

RUMFORD – A tractor-trailer truck driven by Robert F. Childs, 55, no town given, sustained $2,000 damage late Sunday afternoon after it struck a cow moose on Route 2.

Police said the wreck occurred one mile west from the Andover Road at 4:42 p.m. The injured moose had to be killed.
