MEXICO – There will be a public hearing for Mexico and Rumford residents at 6 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 13, in the Mexico Town Hall to discuss a $400,000 grant application.

The hearing’s purpose is to explain the Community Development Block Grant Business Assistance Program application submitted for review to the Maine Department of Economic Development.

The application is for $400,000 to help build the River Valley Technology Center in Rumford.

After the 6:30 p.m. hearing, Mexico’s Board of Selectmen will conduct a regular board meeting.

Old business items include opening bids for town-owned property, an update on the firetruck sale to Byron, and Rumford’s truck route bypass discussion.

According to the agenda, Mexico is against any kind of truck bypass and will hold its own public forum if needed.

New business includes setting the tax rate, a first review of the town’s Police Public Access Policy to Records, a request to take a firetruck to the state firefighters convention in mid-September, and the Oxford County Regional Communications Center’s training program for 911 use.

Executive sessions will be held to discuss the Farrington Mountain Landfill and a pending legal case involving the police department.
