LEBANON, Maine (AP) – Fire officials say a carbon monoxide detector saved a family in the southern Maine community of North Lebanon.

Lebanon Rescue Assistant Chief Jason Cole tells WMTW-television the family was sound asleep when the alarm sounded at 8 a.m. Friday. He says emergency workers arrived to find seven family members showing signs of carbon monoxide poisoning, including respiratory distress, sore throats, headaches and stomach upset.

Cole says all seven family members, including five children from 3 to 12 were taken to H.D. Goodall Hospital in Sanford for treatment.
