FARMINGTON — Last spring, Jason Ramsey, a former Mt. Blue High School student and recent Cornell University honors graduate, recognized Ewan Good of Mt. Blue High School as a teacher who had most influenced him throughout his academic career.
In honor of Good, Cornell then awarded a $4,000 grant to a Mt. Blue High School student who was going to attend Cornell. Zach Hernandez, who graduated in 2009, received the honor, and is now at Cornell majoring in animal sciences.
As a result of the grant awarded to Hernandez, Good was invited to Cornell as part of a two-day teacher celebration, to be recognized for his academic inspiration.
Good, a German and French teacher and part of the World Language Department at Mt. Blue High School, has also been asked to present a poem by the French Canadian writer Lina Rasnier at the American Council for Quebec Studies at the International Conference in Burlington, Vt.
The high school’s World Language Department currently offers courses in French, German, Spanish and American Sign Language. Next spring the department hopes to sponsor several district-wide activities as part of International Language Awareness Week.
