AUBURN — A broken cast-iron water main snarled traffic along Hotel Road for four hours Monday morning.
Auburn Water District Engineer Sid Hazelton said crews had to detour northbound Hotel Road traffic at Poland Road while they worked to repair the break beginning at about 7:30 a.m. Monday.
They were able put a clamp around the main, sealing the leak by 11 a.m. Both lanes of traffic reopened by about 11:30 a.m.
“There are two kinds of cracks we can have,” Hazelton said. “You can get a crack around the pipe and when that happens you can just put a repair clamp around it. That’s what we had. A crack along the length of the pipe is much more severe and we luckily didnt’ have that kind.”
Hazelton said the leaking pipe was discovered at about 6 a.m.
