AUBURN — The city’s Pettengill Park softball fields reopen for play Monday night with a ribbon-cutting ceremony.

City officials will celebrate the end of the project and the beginning of a new season at 5:30 p.m. at the field, 48 Pettengill Park Road.

The new field features a fully renovated softball field pattern, along with improved drainage infrastructure, irrigation system, right field retaining wall with fence, wall padding, new backstop, foul poles and upgraded sport fencing.

The City of Auburn Public Services Department did much of the work, along with Thirsty Turf Irrigation Inc., Main Line Fence Co. Inc. and Winding Brook Turf Farm Inc.

The renovated fields should last much longer and will be used by numerous other city recreation programs this summer.
