BANGOR, Maine — A body of an adult male was recovered from the Penobscot River near the Bangor Waterfront about 5:15 a.m. Sunday, according to Maine Marine Patrol.

The Bangor police said Sunday morning that the identity of the individual would be withheld pending confirmation by the office of the Chief Medical Examiner in Augusta. An autopsy was pending Sunday morning.

Foul play is not suspected but the members of the criminal division of the Bangor Police Department are investigating.

Members of the Maine State Police Marine Patrol Dive Team were called to the scene at approximately 9:50 p.m. Saturday, the release said.

Marine Patrol Sgt. Matthew Talbot, and officers Tom Reardon, Owen Reed and Brent Chasse responded. Members of the Marine Patrol operated side scan sonar to help the dive team search the river.

Bangor police were called to the waterfront near Front Street around 9 p.m. Saturday.
