FARMINGTON — Police say a pedestrian complained of head pain after he stepped into traffic and was struck by a car Thursday on the Wilton Road.

Dave Lloyd Melvin, 62, of Strong was walking east on Routes 2 and 4 just beyond Michael Motors about 4 p.m. when he stepped into the road and was struck by a 2010 Subaru Outback driven by Harry Brown, 66, of Starks.

A Franklin County deputy sheriff witnessed the accident and said there was nothing the driver could have done, Bonnie Pomeroy, Farmington police secretary, said.

Melvin was taken to Franklin Memorial Hospital by a NorthStar ambulance. He was treated and released, a hospital spokesman said Friday.

Police did not know why Melvin stepped into the road, Pomeroy said.

Traffic was slowed for over 30 minutes.

State police, deputies from the Franklin County Sheriff’s Office and Farmington Fire and Rescue responded to help Farmington police.
