Mt. Blue’s Zak Kendall has been named a finalist for the Frank J. Gaziano Memorial Lineman Award.

Kendall is one of three finalists for the Gaziano Defensive LinemanAward, along with Greg Duff of Bangor and Kurt Massey of John Bapst.

The three finalists for the Offensive Lineman Award are Bobby Begin of Thornton Academy, Jack Lucy of Orono and Andy Martel of Bonny Eagle.

Winners will be announced on Jan. 27 at the Augusta Civic Center. Each winner will receive a trophy, leather jacket and $5,000 scholarship.

Kendall was a senior defensive end/tight end/running back on Mt. Blue’s unbeaten Class B state championship team. He caught a 20-yard touchdown pass in the Cougars’ 44-42 win over Marshwood. A dominant run stopper, he was a Pine Tree Conference defensive all-star.

The Gaziano Awards have been presented annually since 2010 to “players who epitomize the character, leadership, and perseverance of Gaziano,” according to the award’s web site. “Recipients will be selected by the awards committee based on their strong leadership on the field, in the classroom, and in the community.”
