On Friday morning, Debbie Berry of Auburn ties a scarf around a lamp post on Court Street in downtown Auburn. Berry, along with friends Bobbie Hill, of Lewiston, and Nadine Williamson, of Auburn, started putting scarves in Kennedy Park for people in need during the winter. Friday was the third time they have gone out, and they have added hats and mittens to go along with the scarves. Everything they put out is donated, some are handmade. So far, they hanged over 150 items “and they go quick,” Berry said, because people are really in need. Follow “Just.BEcause” on Facebook to get involved or find out more.
Debbie Berry, Bobbie Hill and Nadine Williamson stand outside in the cold tying scarves to street poles because they know people need warm clothing during the winter. Each item is tagged with the quote “Keep On Keepin’ On.” This is in remembrance of Berry’s daughter, who used this slogan before passing away from cancer. “We have all known loss and pain,” Berry said. “We can emphasize and want to help people,” Hill said.
