FARMINGTON – Two children and their father from Industry and a Corinna man remained at a Bangor hospital Monday after a fatal crash Saturday night on Route 2 in Pittsfield, according to a spokesman from the Maine Department of Public Safety.

Icy road conditions were a contributing factor in the crash, Stephen McCausland had said previously.

Eight people were injured and one killed when a Jeep Wrangler, driven by Joseph Ortolano Sr., 68, of Corinna went out of control when it hit some black ice and struck a Chevrolet Tahoe at about 8:30 p.m.

The Tahoe was driven by Michael Pease, 43, of Industry.

Ortolano’s wife, Camille Ortolano, 67, died at the scene, according to McCausland’s release.

Pease and his sons, Xavier, 8, and Michael, 15, and Joseph Ortolano remained at Eastern Maine Medical Center, McCausland said Monday.

According to an EMMC spokesman, Scott and Michael Pease were listed in good condition around 4 p.m. Monday. Xavier Pease and Ortolano were listed in serious condition.

Pease’s wife, Heather Willis, 41, and three of their children were released from the hospital, he said. Those children are Cameron Pease, 11, Shadrach Higgins, 16, and Kaitlin Higgins, 14.
