CAPE CORAL, Fla. — Oxford Hills graduate Jessie Dennis tossed a two-hitter and slapped an RBI single to lead Saint Joseph’s College to a 3-1 victory over Defiance in the first of two softball games Thursday at Cape Coral Park.

Cornerstone scored two runs in the top of the seventh inning to swipe the nightcap from the Monks, 5-3.

Dennis struck out five and walked two.

St. Joe’s scored its three runs in the top of the fifth.

Kristen Gaudette ripped a two-run triple. Dennis immediately followed with a run-producing single.

Cortney Sirois stroked three singles, stole two bases and drove in a pair of runs in the second game, but the Monks (2-6) saw a 3-2 lead evaporate when Cornerstone (6-3) knotted the game in the top of the fifth.

Cornerstone (6-3) reached losing pitcher Kahler Dowling for 14 hits. Traci Paterson was 3-for-4 at the top of the order. Heather Miles, Kendra Beckman and Moe Moran each delivered two hits.
