Recent actions of some Americans leave me, a veteran and member of the National Guard, wondering how they could believe what they feel is an honest viewpoint or stance on our nation’s position on Iraq.

People have a right to express opinions and sentiments on the war and our nation’s policies. A right afforded them by the Constitution of the United States. A document I swore to uphold and defend. The same document our presidents swear to uphold and defend.

These protesters hold signs calling our president a murderer, a terrorist and other things that are just outright lies. Signs that send a message they know to be blatantly mean and slanderous.

What I cannot understand is how any red-blooded patriot and American could create such a sign and hold it up for the world to see. They intentionally neglect to condemn Saddam. Saddam’s regime has killed more Muslims than we will in this war and the last.

I would like to assure all Americans, those supporting the decision to oust the murderer and those misguided few who choose not to think rationally, that we in the service to our country will continue to support and defend the Constitution. Thereby, giving all of us the rights and freedoms many take for granted daily. With that freedom we are obviously afforded the right to think and choose as we wish.

Some day in the near future the Iraqis will have these same freedoms.
