PORTLAND (AP) – A U.S. Marine from South Portland who was seriously injured in a land mine explosion in Iraq remained in serious condition Thursday, his father said.

Jeffrey McCue, father of Cpl. Eric McCue, said a Marine official from Camp Lejeune, N.C., called Thursday afternoon and said his son had received a blood transfusion.

The official told McCue that his son would remain in Iraq until his condition stabilized, at which time he would be moved to a U.S. military base in Germany.

McCue, 21, had his left foot amputated earlier this week after stepping on a land mine while on the front lines as a Marine infantryman. McCue graduated from South Portland High School in 2000.
