LISBON – Selectmen this week agreed to send residents a letter explaining the proposed budgets that will appeaer on the May town meeting warrant.

Selectman Mike Bowie said he thought it was important that taxpayers know what the town’s goals and objectives are and about some of the budget increases. He said many of them are fixed charges and are “not under our control.”

At the request of Water Commission Chairman Bill Bauer, selectmen agreed to include an article in the town meeting warrant for a $393,00 bond for water department projects.

The department is looking for new sources of water and to purchase land if a sufficient amount of water is found, he said. “If we do not need/choose to purchase land for new water,” he said the bond wouldn’t be needed.

He also pointed out that Lisbon’s water rate of $16.20 per cubic foot as of March 12 is the lowest in the state.

In other business:

• Following a public hearing, the special entertainment permit and liquor license for Casa Mia Inc. was renewed. An amendment to the Railroad diner liquor license permitting the use of tables outside was approved, as were three mobile home park licenses.

• Selectmen Ed Madden recommended selectmen meet with the Planning Board in an effort to help it work together. Chairman Charles Smith agreed that it is “an area that needs to be addressed.”

• Economic Development Director Dan Feeney suggested that Androscoggin Valley Council of Governments might be able to come to the town office for a training seminar for both Planning Board and Appeals Board members to learn more about their duties.

• Town Manager Curtis Lunt said he visited the elementary school construction site on Mill Street and found cement trucks damaging the road. He said drivers have been asked to enter and exit on the same route.

• Selectmen voted to issue a quitclaim deed for Robert Wagg to release land, although the town has no record of any outstanding taxes, according to Lunt.
