As a former School Committee member, when the first request for a special town meeting to consider an addition at the Minot Consolidated School came up we thought this was too big an issue for the committee to decide so we brought it to the people and their voices were heard. They voted no.
People who do not agree with that result have now requested, through the board of selectmen, that we ask the question again (April 2)!
We had the facts. We had our say. The townspeople gave a resounding no.
I believe that the school size is adequate. We have an organizational problem, not a size problem.
I tried to free space by keeping core classes and voting against extras.
I also tried countless times to put all of the computers in classrooms and the library because I believe that computers should be integrated, not taught as their own entity. Teaching keyboarding skills to children is all done by software and using a computer should be part of regular instruction. This would free space.
With some organization, we can utilize the space more appropriately.
I think of Minot School as a disorganized home. The owner wants to build onto the house. Contractors look at a cluttered home and say, you don’t need more space – you just need to use this space better.
Let’s think of it that way, thinking of new innovative ideas.
Let the voters’ voice that we all heard ring!
