CARTHAGE -The Carthage Historical Society will meet at 5:30 p.m. Tuesday, April 15, for a potluck followed by a short business meeting at the old schoolhouse. Robert Keith will speak about the first settlers of Carthage and the location of their homes and farms. He has been studying early courthouse records and has found much of interest. All are welcome.

Historical Society

RUMFORD -The Rumford Historical Society will meet at 7 p.m. on Wednesday, April 16, in the conference room of the Municipal Building. After a business meeting, Len Greaney will present a program on “Researching Deceased Veterans of the River Valley.” Refreshments will be served and the public is invited.

Dixfield’s market

DIXFIELD -The Dixfield Main Street Outdoor Market Committee held its first meeting for the 2003 market, which will be 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 17.

This is Dixfield’s bicentennial year and additional activities are being planned for that day.

The committee plans to provide a day-care option for participants and attendees. If an organization would like to use this as a fundraiser, contact Norine or Ralph Clarke at 562-8816. Musicians are always welcome at the market and volunteers may call the same number.

Applications for booth space may be picked up at Log Cabin Craftworks or can be mailed to applicants. Booths may be reserved singly or in multiples for $15 each, the same price as last year.

Previous participants who have had an address change since last year are asked to notify the committee about that change.

Moontide

RUMFORD -The Moontide Water Festival Committee is making plans for the second annual Moontide Garage Sale. This will take place 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday, April 19, at the Armory on Hancock Street. All proceeds will go to the Moontide Water Festival events.

People are being asked to look in their homes, sheds, basements and attics for any good items to contribute to the garage sale. The items should be in good condition, clean and saleable.

People can drop off items near the garage doors at the Hancock Street entrance at the Armory. Drop-off times will be from 7 a.m. to 3 p.m. April 14-18.

Organizers said people at the Adult Activity Center will gladly collect items for people. No large appliances will be accepted. People are asked not to drop items off before or after those times. For item pick-up call Dan Richard, at 369-9302, and he will make arrangements.

Crosswinds

RUMFORD -This Easter season Crosswinds is presenting a musical/drama based on the lives of the martyrs of Christ, called the “Jesus Freaks.” This radical presentation will be at 2 p.m. Saturday, April 19, at the Mountain Valley High School, Muskie Auditorium. Doors will open at 1:30 p.m.

A 50-member cast of teens and adults from the area will present some of the lives of the martyrs through song, drama and dance. A Voice of the Martyrs’ spokesperson will present slides during intermission

There will be a $3 admission at the door.

. This organization sees firsthand what takes place around the world concerning the persecuted church, according to a Crosswinds spokesman.

This Easter season will be a memorable one as people begin their celebration remembering those who gave their lives in following our Lord’s example, the spokesman said.

Job fair

Rumford – The CareerCenter is seeking area employers and job seekers to participate in the upcoming job fair, said Ray Potvin, co-manager of the Rumford CareerCenter.

The fair will be from 9 a.m. to noon Tuesday, April 29, at the American Legion, 58 Congress St. The public is welcome to attend, and the event is free of charge.

“We’re hoping that a number of employers will want to take advantage of the free display tables at the job fair and the chance to meet with the job seekers that pay a visit,” Potvin said. “We also anticipate that lots of people will turn out to discover our services and explore the career opportunities offered at the fair.”

Space is limited, so Potvin advised interested employers to reserve their exhibit tables by Friday, April 11, by contacting the Rumford CareerCenter, at 1-877-421-7915.

Maine’s CareerCenters offer training programs, customized consultations, workshops and resources for both job seekers and employers. Each office has an information center that offers use of computers, library, office equipment and telephones. All CareerCenter services are available at no cost.
