FARMINGTON – A Farmington man died in a Lewiston hospital Thursday afternoon from internal injuries sustained earlier the same day in a two-vehicle crash in Farmington.
Reino Hill, 77, was out of his 1993 blue Ford station wagon and walking when police arrived at the scene. Several minutes later, however, Hill became unconscious and stopped breathing. Police used cardio-pulmonary resuscitation and he was transported to Franklin Memorial Hospital, then taken by helicopter to Central Maine Medical Center where he died on the operating table at 4:06 p.m.
The crash occurred when Hill, traveling west on Main Street at 10:20 a.m., crossed the road to make a left turn onto the Farmington Falls Road. His vehicle was struck on the passenger side by a 1993 Toyota pickup truck traveling east on Main Street. The wreck occurred at the intersections of Routes 2 and 4 and Routes 2 and 27.
The driver of the pickup truck was Andrea Muise, 24, a college student from Massachusetts. Though she was uninjured in the crash, extensive damage to her vehicle was estimated at $5,000, said Farmington police officer Drew Hufnagel.
Both drivers were insured and were wearing seat belts.
Hill had a past history of medical problems, said Hufnagel, and recently had triple-bypass heart surgery. Next of kin, including Hill’s wife, Betty, have been notified.
