The story about the Iraqi good Samaritan, Mr. Mohammed, and his gift of life to Pfc. Jessica Lynch in the April 5 Sun Journal touched me deeply!
It is unlikely this young American woman soldier, with her many serious wounds, would have survived, only to have been dumped into an unmarked hole in the ground like so much refuse, had not this selfless Iraqi lawyer risked his own life under the eyes of his countrymen until American troops could, using his vital information, storm the hospital and effect her release. Had he even been suspected, his death and the deaths of his family would have been sure.
Mr. Mohammed is a true war hero in every sense of the word, another Schlindler, if you will. He should be rewarded for his heroism and his love for the sanctity of the life of a helpless American in every way our merciful nation can bring to bear. A life for a life.
He deserves a hero’s reward, does he not?
May I suggest we bring this noble man and his family to the United States, should they care to come, easing their path to full citizenship and see that he is placed in a law firm of his choice, providing further education gratis, should it be necessary?
Can I interest some of our Maine senators in cutting through our red tape to begin this process? Another noble work yet undone cries out for being here.
