1914 – 2003

LEWISTON – Anthony M. Adams, 88, of 54 Charles St., passed away Saturday, April 12, at Central Maine Medical Center after a short illness.

He was born in Lewiston on July 4, 1914, the son of Peter and Marcella Adamen. He was educated in Lewiston schools and graduated from Jordan High School in 1932.

He was self-employed as a plumbing and heating contractor until his retirement in 1984. He was married to Teogenia Norbut of Lewiston on Nov. 5, 1938, and they had two children, Diane and Michael.

He was a member of St. Patrick’s Church where he served as an usher and was a volunteer at the St. Vincent de Paul Society. He was a co-founder of the St. Patrick’s golf league which he enjoyed participating in for over 35 years.

He was a lifelong member of the Lewiston Lodge of Elks.

Survivors include his wife of 64 years, Teogenia, of Lewiston; one daughter, Diane and her husband, George Hersh, of Berkeley, Calif.; a son, Michael and his wife, Patricia Small Adams, of Lewiston; one sister, Amelia Vermette of Lewiston; three grandchildren, Michael Hersh of Albany, Calif., Matthew Adams of Portland, Bethany Adams of Lewiston; and two great-grandchildren, Sydnie and Allison Hersh of Albany, Calif.

He was predeceased by one grandson, David Hersh; two sisters; and four brothers.
