LEWISTON – The head of Empower Lewiston, Carole Ansheles, stepped down from her post Tuesday.
Barbara Rankins, Empower Lewiston board president, confirmed that Ansheles tendered her resignation Tuesday. Rankins said the group is considering its options in wake of the announcement.
“All I can say now is that she just let us know,” Rankins said. “We’re just checking into what we want to do next at this point. We don’t know how we’re going to move forward.”
Ansheles joined the organization in February of 2000, soon after the Lewiston group began. Empower Lewiston was created to administer U.S. Department of Agriculture money earmarked for the poorest sections of Lewiston’s downtown. Last year, the Empower Lewiston board awarded four grants, totaling $170,650. Those grants went to Faithworks, Americorps, Volunteers of America and Goodwill Industries.
Ansheles declined to comment Tuesday.
