The conference is part of the Baby Friendly Hospital initiative, an international effort developed by the World Health Organization and United Nations International Children’s Emergency Fund to promote, protect and support breastfeeding in hospitals and birth centers around the world.

Central Maine Medical Center has completed a Certificate of Intent confirming the Special Delivery Family Birthing Center’s plans to create a family-centered environment that is “baby friendly” and practices the 10 Steps to Successful Breastfeeding.

The Special Delivery “Baby Friendly” team is made up of nurses from each shift who are working to implement the 10 steps at the birthing center.
