1952 – 2003

DIXFIELD – Jane Ellen Dubendris, 50, left this life Monday, April 14, after a yearlong struggle to stem the tide of an illness that overwhelmed parts of her. Though cancer cells were able to take over her body, they were unable to touch the essence of her being – her spirit, her love, and her caring for others. Her walk on this earth was a walk of love.

Her life’s work as a nurse exemplified this best. She devotedly gave to the patients she cared for by not only being an excellent nurse, but even more so in being an empathic spirit and presence for them. To her large family of friends, she was always a source of support, love and unbridled enthusiasm for whatever might be going on in their lives. She loved being here.

She loved the simple things like sitting on her camp porch at Worthley Pond on warm summer nights and listening to the loons. Seeing massive puffy white clouds soaring through a beautiful blue sky. She could carry on about how exquisite a sunset was, or, how fresh peapods from the garden would taste and feel in your mouth. She truly enjoyed being here.

She was born at Rumford Community Hospital April 30, 1952, the daughter of Elinor and Shine Dubendris. She graduated from Mexico High School with the class of 1970 and earned a degree in Nursing from Mary Hitchcock Memorial Hospital School of Nursing (Hanover, NH) in 1973 followed by a B.S.P.A. degree from St. Joseph’s College (Standish) with the class of 1974. She was employed at Rumford Community Hospital as a nurse in ICU and staff coordinator where she had worked from 1974 to 2002.

She is survived by two brothers, Bernard and his wife Mary of Standish, and Paul of San Francisco, CA.
