SALEM, Mass. – Erik Kent scattered seven hits and allowed one run over eight innings to lead Southern Maine to an easy 7-1 victory over Salem State in baseball action Thursday.

The victory was the Huskies’ seventh straight.

USM (14-10) took a quick 2-0 lead in the first on RBI singles by Andy Lang and Brian Marshall. Marshall also had a sacrifice fly.

Tip Fairchild of Monmouth and Colin Loveless of South Paris sparked a three-run outburst in the ninth with RBI singles.

Lang led the USM attack with three singles. Fairchild and Loveless chipped in with two hits apiece.

Salem State’s lone run came in the seventh inning on Al Leighton’s double and an RBI single by Ryan DeVine.

Husson sweeps Fisher

BANGOR – Craig Harvey scored on Tony Laprino’s fielder’s choice in the bottom of the ninth inning to lift Husson to a 6-5 win over Fisher in Game 1 of a collegiate doubleheader Thursday. The Braves also rallied to win the nightcap when Tony Creek scored on Josh Ferguson’s RBI single in the bottom of the eighth for a 5-4 win.

In the opener, Fisher led 3-1 after three innings before Husson came alive with three runs in the fifth inning. Travis Tripp earned the win while Victor Joaquin was credited with the loss.

Harvey smacked a two-run double in the fifth to give Husson a 4-1 advantage in Game 2. Fisher fought back with three runs in the seventh inning, but came up just shy.

Tony Creek picked up the win for Husson while Ken Olisky was credited with the loss. Miguel Medina led the way for Fisher with one hit and two RBIs.

Bowdoin 5, Endicott 3

BRUNSWICK – Rick Leclerc scattered two hits and struck out five as Bowdoin defeated Endicott 5-3.

Jimmy Shea and Tom McMahon each had a pair of hits for Bowdoin. Leclerc tossed five no-hit innings to earn the win.

George Allain led Endicott with three runs. Charlie Kemble lasted six innings, allowing eight hits and five runs.

St. Joseph’s 9,

Western New England 1

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. – Lucas Hannigan smacked a three-run home run in the sixth inning to propel St. Joseph’s to a 9-1 romp over Western New England.

Ben Muniz went 2-for-3 with a double and three RBIs for St. Joe’s, while Jerrett Shaffer picked up the mound win. The victory snapped a seven-game winning streak for Western New England. The Monks (12-13) added six runs in the sixth to put the game out of reach.

Men’s Lacrosse
Colby 17, USM 7

WATERVILLE – Joshua Cleaver scored three goals and added one assist to lead Colby to a 17-7 men’s lacrosse victory over Southern Maine.

The Mules (3-6) scored four goals in the first seven minutes of the second quarter on their way to nine goals in the period. Andrew O’Connell-Shevenell added three goals for Colby, while Conor Cooper added

two.

Jonathan Gagne led the way for Southern Maine with three goals, while Matt Butler tallied two. Dan Soule and Paul Dubiel tallied single goals to complete the scoring.

Jeff Miller needed only one save to post the win for Colby. Frank Leclair and Mark Morrissette combined for 17 saves in net for Southern Maine.
