FRYEBURG – The Fryeburg Fish and Game Association has arranged with FirearmSafety and Jeff Weinstein, a National Rifle Association certified chief instructor of Yarmouth, to conduct a 12-hour NRA personal protection course on Sunday, April 27, and Sunday, May 4, with classroom instruction given at the Fryeburg Fire Department and practical live-fire shooting at the Fish and Game Range on Route 113.

Completion of an NRA personal protection course is the premier way to satisfy the firearms safety and training requirements of the Maine State Police and other Maine police departments before a concealed firearms permit is issued.

Topics covered during the course include the safe handling and storage of firearms, an overview of the many types of firearms that can be used for personal defense, basic marksmanship, the psychological and physiological aspects of encountering a threatening situation, and one’s rights, responsibilities and obligations in the use of a firearm for self-defense.

Embedded in the course is a presentation on “Firearms and the Law” by attorney John Chapman. This three-hour lecture specifically covers the legal and ethical requirements to consider in the use of a firearm in defensive situations.

Fee for the course is $85, which includes all course materials and refreshments.

For more information and a registration application, contact Bob Wallstrom at 207-935-4655 or Jeff Weinstein of FirearmSafety at 207-846-3000.
