On April 11, I was shocked and horrified to see nearly half of the front page dedicated to a photo of an Iraqi family that had just lost three family members.

As I half ashamedly picked up the paper and bought it, I began to cry. The young boy foremost in the picture is in obvious agony! Albeit his little hands cover the majority of his grief stricken face.

I, as a mother, can instinctively see the pain and horror he is experiencing. His (and I’m guessing) sister in the background is clearly tormented as well, as are the others near them.

Why must we be subjected to this type of coverage?

Do you think that we do not know the real and disturbing consequences of war?

What is your exact purpose for displaying this photo?

Shock? Outrage? What?

Why must we partake of such invasion of privacy?

Imagine your family being shot, their bodies towed to you in a car in the middle of town, and then having your picture taken as you try to absorb what you see but can not believe.

I bet the photographer taking your picture would not be standing very long. I bet the camera he/she used would not be functioning much longer, either.

Let’s not forget that, although Iraqi, they are human. They have husbands, wives, sons and daughters just like you and I.

Imagine your child’s picture there.

Do you see my point?
