BRUNSWICK – Tom McShane scattered eight hits and struck out 12 batters to lead Brandeis to a 5-1 win over Bowdoin in baseball action on a rainy Tuesday afternoon.
Lars Borssen smacked an RBI triple in the sixth inning for the Brandeis (15-10-1). Along with his fine day on the mound, McShane also hit a double.
Bowdoin (12-14) was led by first baseman Tom McMahon with a double, while Jimmy Shea knocked in the lone run with a single in the fifth inning.

UMass-Boston 8, USM 7
GORHAM – Martin Finnerty scored the game-winning goal with 1:11 remaining to thwart a valiant comeback by the University of Southern Maine Huskies and lead visiting UMass-Boston to an 8-7 triumph Tuesday afternoon.
Josh Stolp scored a hat trick for the Beacons (5-7, 3-2), while Steven Cappellini added two goals.
Southern Maine (2-7, 0-3) received a pair of goals from Matt Butler and Kevin McKay, while Paul Dubiel, Sean Favreau, and Dan Soule rounded out the scoring.
Nick Eaton had 15 saves for the Beacons, while Jeff Lamoreux turned aside 12 shots for the Huskies.
UNE 19, Mount Ida 11
BIDDEFORD – The University of New England Nor’easters raced out to a 10-0 lead en route to a 19-11 victory over the Mount Ida.
Matt Vieira scored five goals and had two assts to lead the UNE (5-5) attack. Ryan Rivard scored four times and Tyler Tuburski had three goals and four assists for a career-best seven points. Kevin Benasich chipped in with two goals and an assist.
P.J. Matthews paced the Mustangs (4-3) with five goals. Brendan Kelly and Richard Aurelio had two goals apiece.
Paul Tabor needed 29 saves to record the victory for the Nor’easters. Mount Ida split their goaltending duties between Brian Eyles and Robert Ferrante Philippa, who saved a combined 5 shots.
