RUMFORD – Police fielded complaints Tuesday about a moose wandering on town streets.

Reserve officer Brock Clukey, also a Maine game warden, responded to the first complaint from MeadWestvaco security. He made the young ungulate vamoose back into the woods, said Sgt. Stacy Carter.

A short while later, at 10:30 p.m., what appeared to be the same moose crossed a canal bridge and strolled into the fenced-in area of the park at the end of Congress Street.

Officers David Bean and Michael Halacy responded. However, rather than going back into the woods, the animal stubbornly held its ground, Carter said.

But eventually the two officers herded the moose out of the park, back across the bridge and into the woods again.
